The legacy began in 1898 when Dutch immigrant J.G. Van Holten's dream of owning his own business became a reality. Van Holten's started as a vinegar distributor in Milwaukee, WI and soon sauerkraut and pickles were added to the product line.
In I939, Van Holten's developed the original Pickle-In-A-Pouch. This product concept of individually wrapped pickles was way ahead of its time and is now the cornerstone of Van Holten's business.
As the demand for individually wrapped pickles grew so did the need for larger facilities, prompting the move to our current location in Waterloo, Wisconsin in 1956. In 1992 seeing the company's potential for growth, Jim Byrnes, a Milwaukee based entrepreneur purchased Van Holten's. Our concentration since then has been blending the innovation and passion that started so many years ago with a solid common sense business approach. We have focused on what we do best, the Pickle-In-A-Pouch, which is why we are the world's number one producer of individually wrapped pickles.
The drive to stay ahead of all competition has led to major improvements in recent years. Van Holten's has installed automated packaging lines, completely updated our manufacturing processes, celebrated the grand opening of a newly constructed factory, and have doubled the size of our pickle tanking capacity.
Van Holten's continues to evolve using the same formula of quality, service, innovation, and passion that has made the company successful for well over 100 years.
